Peace Building through a concerted Response of Organizations in North East Region

 
The peace Building Project in North Region is the Initiative of different like minded organizations trying to pool the varied capacities of the organizations to promote peace in the NE Region.  The project is operating mainly in Assam, Nagaland and Tripura and networking activities in Manipur and Meghalaya. NEDSF which is formed to coordinate the development works of all the 15 Dioceses of North East Region coordinates the project.
 

The five partners of peace project are as follows:

1.      Fr. Santiago, North East Diocesan Social Forum (NEDSF), Guwahati

1.      Fr. Walter Fernandes, North East Social Research Centre (NESRC), Guwahati

Fr. C.P. Anto, Youth Commission of Kohima Diocese & Peace Channel Nagaland

1.      Fr. Tom Mangattuthazhe, Youth Commission of Diphu Diocese & Peace Activities, Karbi  Anglong, Assam.

1.      Fr. Robert Mathias, JUST, Tripura.

Mission:
 

The Mission of Peace Building is to reach out to the people especially the youth and leaders of the villages, districts and states by forming various peace teams and core committees at various levels in the society. The networking and Mass media will strengthen the team, to bring about “Peace and Unity” and to eradicate the conflicts that prevent the existence of peace in the society.

 

Project Goal:

Reduction of violence and better understanding between the ethnic communities for a harmonious and just society in the North East Region

Make love a channel of Peace

 
Objective:
Appreciation of each other's culture and reconciliation between the ethnic communities promoted
Tribal and indigenous people are enabled to protect land and develop their resources
Civil Society groups are capacitated and enabled to prevent Human Rights violation, corruption and extortion
Children and youth inculcate an attitude of peaceful living and cooperation

1 Selection and orientation of the staff on Peace Building Project.
2 Training/study on the importance of understanding the traditional Conflict management.
